🌍 Google Earth adds "3D Models”

Google Earth just turned itself into a real-world canvas you can bring your own stuff onto.

With the latest update, you can now upload 3D models, custom data layers, and elevation info directly to the globe, then style and share them in a single map project.

What's new:

  • 3D model imports (GLB): Drop in architectural mockups, props, or building designs and place, scale, and rotate them in real-world context. Huge for architects, set designers, and anyone visualizing concepts on location.

  • Shapefile (.shp) support: The file format used for things like zoning maps and property boundaries now works natively in Earth, so you can layer professional map data on top of your project without needing separate software.

  • Elevation profiles: Draw a line with the measure tool and instantly see terrain dips and peaks in a new graph.
