PRODUCTIVITY
🧠 Claude releases "Opus 5"

Claude released “Opus 5, “a new model that gets close to the intelligence of its flagship, Fable 5, at half the price. It replaced Opus 4.8 as the new default for everyday work.
What's "Opus"? Claude’s AI models come in tiers. Fable 5 is the top-shelf flagship, and Opus is the workhorse tier most people use day to day. Opus 5 closes most of the gap between the two.

The headline feature was an effort toggle. You can set the model to low, medium, or high effort, so quick tasks stay fast and cheap while big projects get the model's full attention.
What's new versus what existed: The price stayed the same as Opus 4.8, but Opus 5 scored within half a percent of Fable 5 on coding benchmarks and tripled the next-best model's score on the ARC-AGI 3 reasoning test.
A Fast mode also shipped alongside it, running about 2.5x faster at double the price for people who need speed over depth.
Note: Claude Opus 5 is available now on Claude web, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and the API.

HEALTH
🩺 ChatGPT releases "Health"

It's a new tab in the sidebar where you can securely connect your medical accounts, view a timeline of your synced records, and explore recent data and trends.

What's new versus what existed: People already asked ChatGPT health questions, but the model was guessing without context.
Now it can see your real records and Apple Health data (only if you connect them), so it can help you spot changes over time and have more informed, personalized conversations.
The rollout started with U.S. users, with everything opt-in and managed from the new Health tab.

🤝 Nvidia, Microsoft, and 20+ tech giants back open AI models

Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, IBM, Palantir, and roughly twenty other companies signed a letter urging the Trump administration and lawmakers not to put sweeping limits on open AI models.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang posted the letter on X and warned against "premature restrictions on open models that stifle competition or drive innovation overseas."
What's an open-weight model? It's an AI model whose brain (the "weights") anyone can download and build on for free. Think of the difference between renting access to ChatGPT and owning a copy of the model yourself.
Why it matters: Open models power a huge chunk of the affordable and free AI tools you already use. The letter argued that keeping them legal and unrestricted lets startups, universities, and small businesses build on advanced AI without paying frontier-model prices, especially as Chinese open models gain ground.
